Now that winter is upon us, most trees and shrubs have lost most of their leaves. This allows you to visibly inspect your home for wood damage which might not be visible in other times of the year.

Many homeowners who have fireplaces stack their firewood against their home and on the ground. Make sure when warmer weather arrives that firewood is either removed from home's perimeter or is elevated off the ground with a non-cellulose material like metal or concrete.
